Bangkok became Thailand’s national capital in 1768. Today, it is busy metropolis with over eight million people and a never ending stream of modern skyscrapers alongside its sacred temples. The Asian investment boom in the 80s and 90s led many multinational corporations to locate their regional headquarters here. Bangkok is now a major regional force in finance and business.
Bangkok is served by two airports: Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Muang Airport. Suvarnabhumi International Airport newer main airport and old Don Muang Airport. Both these airports are approximately 30 km from the downtown.
Bangkok has always been among the world’s top tourist destinations. As an inland city, Bangkok doesn’t have beaches, but Pattaya, approx 150 km southeast, has a sprawling 3km stretch of snow-white sand that softly dissolves into tranquil turquoise waters.
